For the release of the Scholastic/Weston Woods’ DVD Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend, Galen wrote, directed, and hosted a behind-the-scenes look at the making of the film. Running 19 minutes, the DVD special feature takes the viewer on a complete tour of the production process, from the initial planning stages to the finishing touches. There are interviews and appearances by voice actor David de Vries, sound engineer Steve Syarto, animator Ken A. Priebe, and composer Scotty Huff.

“A bonus segment, “The Making of Scaredy Squirrel Makes a Friend” by director Galen Fott, demystifies animation by demonstrating how the pieces for a very short segment come together. Fott harkens back to Melanie Watt’s book and highlights how the film version differs from but still remains faithful to the original work.” -- Maria Salvadore, School Library Journal
